Gaviiformes

This order includes all species of loons, which are found in many parts of northern Europe and North America. These birds live in bodies of water and feed mainly on fish, amphibians, and small aquatic invertebrates, thanks to their excellent diving ability. Historically, they were included in the Grebes (Podicipediformes) in the Colymbiformes group, but they are evolutionarily very distant from them. They are more closely related to penguins, gulls, storks and pelicans.
