Among vertebrates, birds as a group have the lowest percentage of species threat-ened with extinction.
Thus out of the 11,147 species assessed, the International Union for Conservation of Nature identified 159 species already extinct, 5 species extinct in the wild, 225 critically endangered species, 461 endangered species and 800 vulnerable species, i.e. 14% of species under threat.
