“INSOMNIA,” the new exhibition at the Museum of Natural History & Vivarium

The museum has reopened, and the “Insomnia” exhibition has been extended

Since time immemorial, the night has fascinated, intrigued, and frightened us. This special time when light grows scarce marks a shift in the rhythm of life. In the evening, as diurnal creatures, we tend to wind down our activities, while for nocturnal animals, it’s a time of bustling activity—the moment to spring into action. Many species possess incredible abilities that allow them to adapt to the darkness. After an introduction to the mechanisms behind the onset of night and a stroll under a starry sky, we invite you to meet animals with keen eyesight, sharp hearing, or a highly developed sense of smell, and to encounter masters of camouflage and stalking. Then take a moment to relax as you explore the different stages of sleep and learn how animals dream. Next, shiver at the tales of myths and legends linked to the world of the night. But fear not, they’re just stories… or are they? Because between dusk and dawn…

The exhibition runs through Sunday, September 6, 2026.
